The Coffee:

Red and Yellow Caturra, Tabi, Pink Bourbon. Natural.

This is a blend of three of Black Oak's favorite natural process Colombian coffees from this year. They have showcased two of the three coffees individually in previous harvest years.

While Black Oak loved each of these individual coffees both in years past and in this present crop, this blend creates a rounder cup with a greater level of depth than the individual components.

It's a complex and unique blend filled with notes of bright raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, guava, banana, pineapple. The fruit notes in this coffee are vivid and complex. Beyond that, and depending on brewing method, there are also earthy notes of dark chocolate, cacao nibs, and fine tobacco round out the cup.

The Roaster:

Black Oak began (and continues to thrive) in a small town called Ukiah, California in Mendocino County.

In 2012 when Black Oak started, the team had no idea how a quality focused roaster would be received in a sub-rural working class community. Much to their delight–people loved the coffee and kept coming in.

Black Oak developed their techniques for roasting, sourcing, brewing and service from a place of desire to provide a truly great product, and things grew organically from there. Initially developing a strong reputation for their naturally processed coffees, particularly from Ethiopia, their reputation has continued to flourish.

Their artistry and skill has made them a two time Golden Bean North America overall champion, winner of America’s best espresso, a Good Food Award finalist, and more!
