Santa Elena is located in one of the most remote coffee producing regions in Central America. Accessed by a network of paved and mostly dirt mountain roads, it is a minimum 6 hour drive by bus or 4 wheel drive vehicle from the Capital City of Tegucigalpa.
Here, Mario Vasquez operates as a member of the Catracha Coffee Company, which serves as a local cooperative providing resources and infrastructure to the best specialty coffee producers to take their coffee out to the world. Profits are shared directly with the producers. You can read more by visiting catrachacoffee.com
In Mario's incredible coffee you'll find notes of brown sugar, marzipan, honeysuckle, peach, roasted cacao nib in aroma and cup. Delicate, soft acidity; rounded full body. Flavor consolidates around stone fruit and cacao nib in a long and pleasant finish as it cools. We hope you love it as much as we do.
The Roaster:
Old Soul Coffee Roasters, founded in 2006 in Sacramento, California, started with humble beginnings in a renovated storage warehouse in Midtown. The company was born out of a partnership between Tim Jordan and Jason Griest, who shared a passion for coffee culture and artisanal craftsmanship. Initially focused on wholesale coffee and baked goods, their business quickly grew due to local demand, leading to the establishment of their first retail location, affectionately known as "The Alley."
Over the years, Old Soul Co. has expanded to include multiple locations across Sacramento, each maintaining a cozy, community-oriented atmosphere. They are known for their specialty coffees, such as their popular Nitro Cold Brew, and also their handcrafted artisan breads and pastries.
Old Soul has won 30+ North American Golden Bean medals and the long-term sourcing project in Honduras they are apart of, was named a finalist for the 2024 Specialty Coffee Association Sustainability Project of the Year.
Old Soul has also had over 25 coffees earn ratings of 93+ points by Coffee Review, including 4 that have been named to their annual Top 30 of the Year list.
